The cost of renting a home in Geelong has soared in the past 12 months, driven at least in part by families desperate to escape COVID-stricken Melbourne.
The latest Domain Rental Report reveals the 7.5 per cent hike stands in sharp contrast to a 2.5 per cent drop in Melbourne, the steepest fall on record.
The Domain data also reveals an increase of 4.9 per cent in the March quarter, up from a median of $410 in December to $430 in March.
