Pontoon replacements provide a boost for boating enthusiasts

 The Ocean Grove’s Guthridge Street Boat Ramp has been upgraded to improve the functionality of the piles and pontoons for the region’s boating enthusiasts.

Fishers are reminded they must remove their lines from the water when a vessel approaches the pontoons.

All users are requested to place large fish frames and other waste in the bins provided onshore.

Storm damage to both the upstream and downstream pontoons in 2020 and 2021, saw the City of Greater Geelong install temporary structures to allow time for new designs to be developed and funding sourced for replacement.

Clifton Springs Boat Harbour - shallow entrance at low tides

 Vessel operators are warned that the entrance to the Clifton Springs Boat Harbour (CSBH) may be shallow at low tides and restricted by seagrass wrack.

Maintenance dredging of the harbour occurred in December 2022. However, the area external to the entrance is not dredged and there are shallow banks in the vicinity. Exceptional seagrass growth on the Bellarine Banks in recent years, is contributing to infill of the harbour channels by seagrass wrack and is being monitored. Vessel operators are urged to take extra care at predicted tide levels below 0.4m.

Improved movement thanks to shared path connections and crossings

 Pedestrians, cyclists and other active users looking to make the most of the warmer weather stand to benefit from improved shared path connections in East Geelong, Lara and Corio.

The new Boundary Road shared path helps Greater Geelong residents in the eastern suburbs to travel from the Bellarine Rail Trail through to Eastern Gardens.

The path is linked to the wider trail network, connecting the Barwon River Trail, Bellarine Rail Trail, Eastern Gardens, Waterfront and the Bay Trail.
