Welcome to 'COVID normal'

 Hospitality businesses in Geelong are welcoming the lifting of most COVID-19 restriction but services will still be limited at some venues as they deal with crippling staff shortages.

Density limits and crowd restrictions have been abandoned meaning restaurants, cafes and bars can throw open their doors to customers who can prove they have are fully vaccinated or vaccine-exempt.

But months of lockdowns have taken their toll on businesses that were forced to shed staff, with many now having problems re-staffing in time for the post-lockdown, pre-Christmas rush.

Inmate stabbed in Barwon Prison brawl

 A man is in hospital after the latest stabbing at Lara's Barwon Prison.

Police and paramedics were called to the maximum security facility on Bacchus Marsh Road late yesterday afternoon after reports of an altercation.

Sources have told Geelong Broadcasters as many as three inmates were involved in the fight, which ended with one person suffering stab wounds to the lower body.

The wounded man was taken to Geelong Hospital with non-life threatening injuries according to Ambulance Victoria.

Geelong, Surf Coast and Bellarine COVID update

 Geelong has recorded 14 new cases of COVID, and the active tally has now dipped below 200. There's 197 active cases in the Geelong LGA.

No new cases have been recorded in the Surf Coast, Queenscliffe and Golden Plains LGAs.

Surf Coast has 30 active cases, while Queenscliffe has 1 and Golden Plains has 9.

Moorabool Shire reported 5 new COVID cases today, with the active case number 33.

The number of patients in Geelong University Hospital has increased by 1 on yesterday with 14 patients being treated, 6 of those are in ICU which is down 1 from yesterday.
